The 152nd running of the Irish Derby was held on Saturday 1st July 2017 over 1 mile 4 furlongs of The Curragh. The winner was owned by Derrick Smith, Mrs John Magnier and Michael Tabor, bred by Lynch Bages Ltd and Camas Park Stud, trained by Aidan O'Brien and ridden by Seamie Heffernan. The winner won by a neck in 2 minutes 35.45 seconds, with a short head between second and third.

The winning owner won €855,000, with €285,000 to the second and €135,000 to the third.

FORMLINE:- The winner was one of 5 trained by Aidan O'Brien, although the favourite, Wings of Eagles, was from the same stable. Capri won by a neck in 2 minutes 35.45 seconds, with a short head back to Wings of Eagles. In his 2 year old days Capri won 3 of his 5 races, and prior to winning the Irish Derby he ran 6th in the Epsom Derby behind Wings of Eagles (SR 1924). He then won his second Classic, the Doncaster St Leger to crown a career which spanned 14 races and included 6 wins.
